Salta has seen a marked improvement in the quantity and quality of accommodations on offer and now boasts some of the country's finest hotels. Top of our list is the truly luxurious Legado Mitico, the sister of another hotel in Buenos Aires. In a converted downtown mansion it has huge rooms all of which are extremely well appointed - and decorated according to themes based on local characters. There is no elevator and no swimming-pool - the only downsides if those are important details, but it is an experience. The second pick is a more modern boutique hotel, with emphasis on contemporary design, though there is also a traditional Northern theme too: Kkala is located in a chic barrio a stone's throw from the center of Salta. If you would rather stay outside the city then two other selections of Salta hotels would have to be Eaton Place, in San Lorenzo, and Finca Valentina, towards the city airport. Quite different in style and temperament, the former has a distinctive Anglo feel, while the Finca bears some signs of its Italian owners, but both are utterly charming and offer the restfulness of being away from the city center. For something less luxurious, our top recommendation would be Bloomer's, a delightful B&B that prefers to call itself a bed and brunch - it is our number four pick.
