Salamanca’s hotels are dotted around the city with many centered in or around the Plaza Mayor. One hotel with this magnificent location is Petit Palace Lass Torres that is in the Plaza itself. Rooms start at around $70 a room per night and are furnished with balconies overlooking the plaza – for this price and view, it’s hard to compete with anywhere else even if you’re not a budget. If you want to be in the center of the action, shops and restaurants, near the Plaza is the place to be.
Being a major city, Salamanca has its fair share of high-end hotels with matching price tags. Some of these places are housed in old world buildings with architecture dating back multiple centuries. For a look at the works of old world Spain each morning when you wake up, check out the Hotel Rector that was named the Most Excellent European City Hotel by Condé Nast Johansens. It combines the sandstone walls to match some of the oldest buildings in the region with new world amenities at prices upwards from $200 a night. It is located near the university close to the Duero River.
In the mid-level price range, there are multiple modern and functional hotels that offer amenities such as gyms and internet access at prices around $100 per night. A few options are Puente Romano de Salamanca and the Hotel Abba Fonseca also near the University. Most hotels near the Plaza are Spanish-owned and are rarely chain establishments, but higher end ones will have English-speaking staff members. There are few to no international name-brand hotels like Hilton or Marriott around which actually gives the city a more untouched and diamond-in-the-rough feel.
Hostels are everywhere in the city because Salamanca is first and foremost a college town inundated with local and foreign students year round. Within hostels, there is a wide price range of rooms starting as low as $15 per night for a room with shared bathroom and common room to $90 per night for a private bathroom and TV. The lower-end hostels are far less likely to speak anything but Spanish, but many take reservations online and have pictures posted on their websites. Convents often host students for a couple nights on the cheap too.
