Walk past the wrought iron gates at the Charlotte Street or Germain Street entrances of the
block long Saint John City Market and take in the eclectic array of sights, sounds and smells.
Friendly, busy clerks, waves of happy people moving through the aisles, the shift of food and
crafts from vendor stall to stall. Look up and see the city market's ceiling … it looks like the
inverted keel of a ship in homage to the Saint John ship building legacy. This is a refreshing
example of what a Maritime farmers market should be.
The vendor offerings include fresh lobster, seafood, meats, produce, cheese, coffee and
delicious meals. There are also unique wines, teas, crafts and imports. The market is open from
7:30 AM Monday to Saturday. This grand building has been operational since 1876. Any city
visitor should make this landmark a "must see" attraction.
