The New Brunswick Museum is well suited to it's relatively new home in Market Square with three spacious levels of amazing and varied history. There is a cozy theater which rotates informative shorts and a well stocked gift shop on the main floor. The galleries are diverse ... from decorative arts, hall of great whales, 19th century shipbuilding and New Brunswick industry to the birds of New Brunswick.
My family always finds new treasures and fresh, interesting displays on every visit. We are particularly drawn to the decorative arts gallery and spend enormous amounts of time in the area that houses the great whales which leads us through the changing earth gallery. There are many displays about the proud shipbuilding tradition of this region and we often get caught up in these areas too.
The museum has a nice blend of "delicate" displays which are stored behind glass and "hands on" tactile exhibits which immerse the imagination of kids and adults. There is also a nice balance of the established and popular with the new and unusual on display. Budget for 2.5 to 4 hours to experience a worthwhile cross-section of the museum.
