Appio Latino/Tuscolano/Cinecitta
Heading out of the city walls from San Giovanni marks the beginning of Appio Latino, a neighborhood that follows the length of the Via Appia Nuova-- not far from the Via Appia Antica, oldest road in Rome, 312 BC. Though tourists may wander here on occasion, this is a very local neighborhood where the bustling shops, caffes and restaurants cater to its residents. The further along, the less picturesque is the atmosphere. Many like it for its authentic working class vibe.
