Most would say that nothing comes to mind when looking for the Top 10 Things to Do by Rome's largest train station, Termini. However, the very busy neighborhood is choc-a-bloc with cultural things to do. Termini itself is a testament to modern architecture while at the same time showing off the remains of Rome's earliest wall, circa 4th Century BC, Mure Serviane. Across the street is remains of the Baths of Diocletian, which are incorporated into a beautiful church, with some re-design by Michelangelo, an epigraphic museum, and the Palazzo Massimo, a three-story palazzo with some of ancient Rome's most beautiful frescoes in sito. Piazza della Repubblica may be Rome's most beautiful piazza for its sweeping double colonnade and turn-of-the century architecture. Leading down via Nazionale, a shopping and business street, are two nuggets of culture: Teatro dell'Opera, an early 20th century opera house, and Palazzo delle Esposizione, a recently revamped exhibition hall. For those needing a palate cleanser, the famous Trimani wine bar is just around the corner from Termini and boasts the largest wine cantina in Rome.
