Every day, thousands of visitors implode on Piazza Navona to bask in its beauty. With the crowds at over capacity, it is sometimes hard to enjoy the oval-shaped piazza. First, take a walk around the former race track (Stadium of Domitian circa 80 AD), and note the shops and cafes- some of the oldest in Rome like Al Sogno and Tre Scalini. Then make sure to walk around the fountains and take note of the center fountain of the Four Rivers, which is said to be a cut marble rival to the church directly in front of it (Sant'Agnese). W hen you've had enough, make sure to walk the side streets of Navona where you may stumble across a beautiful private cloister (and now cute cafe), or a rarely-scene Raphael fresco at the beautiful Santa Maria della Pace. Or else find some avant garde clothing on via del Governo Vecchio. These side streets are historic and rich in tradition to be sure to get a drink at posh Cafe della Pace and local favorite Bar della Pace.
