Sometimes you just have to go with a name you trust, and lounge in the hallowed walls of Monsieurs Marriott and Westin. Rome is a great city to cash in your Starwood and other bonus points in the recently redone rooms of the some of the hotel world's biggest names, who seem to occupy prime Via Veneto real estate. Marriott makes its claim at the top of Via Veneto with the Hotel Flora, an old maven of sorts, recently redone to Marriott charm. Westin Excelsior, St. Regis Grand and Hotel Eden are Starwood's triumpherate, offering personalized concierges, amazing views, en suite lap pools, opulent renovations, spas and other amenities-- but only if you ask. And Radisson stakes its claim with the only stylish rooftop swimming pool with a very clever view of the trains. Italian brand Boscolo has had a personality make over, going from staid to avant garde and whimsical with villa-inspired Exedra, the traditional Palace and finally Heaven and Hell of the Aleph. Sir Rocco Forte has marked his brand with a gilded edge- the Hotel de Russie is Rome's favorite hideaway for the very famous, where as local-favorite-now-part-Hilton-empire Cavalieri is for those so famous they don't want to be seen. And the Baglioni family marks territory with the very lovely Regina Baglioni on via Veneto.
