Considering that Saudi Arabia has neglected tourism for the most part to keep their world separate from the Western ideal of things, it still has many historical sites and collections of history throughout the city for you to visit and soak up. Whether it's centuries old mosques and palaces, or artifacts behind glass that have chronicled the storied history of this corner of the world, Riyadh has many things for the history minded to check out and experience first hand that you won't see anywhere else on Earth. There isn't much to the Saudi countryside as it's vastly uninhabited and hostile for life to survive in, but there are a couple sites a bus ride away from Riyadh that are worth checking out if you want to escape the city life of Saudi Arabia.
