There are heaps of things to do near Tijuca Park, Rio de Janeiro, thanks in part to the park's vast scale.
Tijuca National Park encompasses vast swathes of sticky tropical jungle, and edges into tourist hotspots across the city.
Depending on where you enter the park, you may be close to the wonderfully bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa, or closer to Rocinha - the largest favela in South America. Far from being voyeuristic, taking a well-informed tour of the favela can be a good way to understand more about life in these complex communities.
Outdoor types and adventure sports enthusiasts will find plenty to do in and around Tijuca National Park - with hikes up to Paineras and Pedra da Gavea extremely popular outdoor activities in Rio. Pedra da Gavea is also the launching spot for hang gliding trips which soar over this most beautiful of cities, before landing on the soft sands of São Conrado.
