Things to do near Sugarloaf, Rio de Janeiro, range from gentle nature spotting walks to shopping sprees.
Sugarloaf mountain is located in one of Rio's most tranquil and picturesque neighborhoods, Urca, and it is pleasant to just stroll around, taking in the magnificent colonial buildings, the fishermen, and the gently bobbing boats.
Shopping is also a popular activity close to Sugarloaf, with the vast Rio Sul shopping center being an easy 10-minute walk from the mountain itself. From Rio Sul it is a five-minute bus ride to Leme, the most tranquil part of Copacabana beach.
Near to Urca, in the residential neighborhood of Botafogo, there is another shopping center, Botafogo Praia Shopping, along with some good restaurants and bars.
The vast Parque do Flamengo is also within easy reach of Sugarloaf, or Pao de Acucar, to give the mountain its Portuguese name, and this landscaped park is a good place to take a stroll or just take in the views. In Flamengo, fans of fruity Brazilian legend Carmen Miranda can also visit the wonderfully camp museum dedicated to her memory.
