Despite being home to one of Rio's biggest tourist attractions, Sugar Loaf mountain, the wider neighborhood of Urca is little explored by tourists. A quiet, tranquil neighborhood of bobbing boats and colonial homes, Urca has just a scattering of restaurants alongside plenty of informal hole in the wall snack bars.
Our number one pick, Bar e Restaurante Urca, is one of the best loved botecos in the city, despite it's simplicity. Order at the indoor bar and then take your food and drink across the road to eat at the side of Guanabara Bay.
For more formal dining, Circulo Militar da Praia Vermelha is the place, and has a lovely location right at the edge of Urca's sheltered beach, Praia Vermelha.
Garota da Urca is a good option for groups looking for casual drinking and dining, while the nearby neighborhoods of Flamengo and Botafogo also provide some excellent dining options such as Porcao Rio's - arguably the best churrascaria in the city, and certainly boasting some of the best views of any Rio de Janeiro restaurant. The vast windows take in sweeping vistas of Sugar Loaf and Guanabara Bay.
