Description:
The pride of Queretaro. Located on Plaza de Armas, just across the street from the spitting dog fountain, this small 21 room colonial style hotel is considered by locals as one of the most beautiful colonial hotels in Queretaro. The rooms are located around a series of three landscaped patios, with the restaurant in the first patio. It is comfortable and quiet. Some of the rooms could stand some updating but most are nicely furnished in colonial Mexican style. Food is great, particularly the homemade hot rolls. The restaurant serves mainly Mexican food, Queretaro style enchiladas are particularly good. I enjoyed the smoked salmon carpaccio. The kitchen is located off of the second patio and the door's left open so there's almost always the fragrance of something really good cooking as you pass by. Slow down as you pass by and in exchange for a smile the chef might hand you a samples of cookies or rolls. The large pool is inviting, but be aware before you jump in, it's not heated and since the patio is shaded, it's usually freezing even in the summer. Staff will set up a private table by the pool for dinner for two in the evening, complete with candles. Parking in the narrow cobblestone streets in the colonial section is almost impossible to find, but Meson Santa Rosa offers valet parking service at a nearby parking lot. It's the perfect place to stay for Holy Week as the Procession of Silence on Good Friday goes right past the front door of the hotel. The rooms along the front of the hotel with a balcony opening onto Avenida Pasteur have the best view in town of this dramatic procession. The hotel and plaza are also beautifully decorated during Christmas season. Understandably, Meson Santa Rosa is a popular place for weddings, receptions and anniversary parties. Reservations should be made as far in advance as possible.
