Description:
While much of the historical El Centro has been beautifully restored, the Meson del Alferero is on the edge of the restored section. The immediate area is residential and small shops that haven't changed much in 50 years ago. If you're looking for an authentic Mexican hotel experience with good food and exceptional hospitality, this would be the place. The hotel is old and some of the room furnishings are a bit worn but the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. The restaurant serves family-style Mexican and American food. There's a small bar next to the restaurant. No parking but hotel staff will drive your vehicle to a nearby parking lot. The street is very narrow and crowded, simply drive up front and honk, someone will run out and take your bags and then rush off with your vehicle while the line of traffic backed up behind your car honks and yells. I took a group of visitors from corporate there and they were served a complimentary glass of champagne while they checked in. I'm told they do this with groups. Although the street in front is noisy, the rooms are in the back of the hotel and are quiet. Each of the 12 rooms has a trap door from the hallway that opens into a box in your room. In the morning someone quietly slips a pot of coffee and rolls into the box.
