There is no doubt that the drive in to Queenstown is spectacular. But just think about how all those mountains, braided rivers and lakes look from above. That's right, I'm about to tell you to get up in the air! If you were ever going to go up in a helicopter or small airplane for a view, Queenstown is the place to do it. There are a number of operations offering everything from a simple sightseeing flight, a combination hike and flight, or the ultimate bungy jump from a helicopter. Whatever your bravery level, you will be well catered for. One of the most popular combinations is a package that includes a helicopter flight as well as a jet boat ride on one of the rivers. Most people end up taking an exciting jet boat ride, so why not combine it with your flight? Another option is whitewater rafting. Alternatively, you can book your flight in a package with a day trip out to the sounds. Milford sound is spectacular rain or shine (the waterfalls are even better when it is raining)and you are on the water for a couple of hours so you could theoretically do a bit of tramping (hiking) afterwards as long as you have your wet weather gear. Doubtful Sound is a full day trip that usually includes going down into the underground power station. Both are highly recommended and whatever you choose to combine your flight with, rest assured you will have plenty of memories. Just remember to charge up the camera!
