Located on the main road south of Salsa Brava and next door to the Lizard King Resort, the Puerto Viejo Bakery is the closest you'll find to a "corporate coffee" house on the Caribbean coast. With some of their dough imported from France and a smallish selection of tiny pastries in the glass cases, this spot may be the only vendor of Cafe Volio in town-the premier brand of Costa Rican coffee provided the well-lit, polished wood sign that adorns the otherwise plain facade. In addition of coffee and pastry, the bakery now offers a breakfast and lunch menu with appetizing options like the Cuban Sandwich- a bit pricey at nearly $8, but a far better deal than day-old baguettes.
