NileGuide Expert tip:
These beaches are remote. Travel with care. Use common sense and don't get stuck in the sand. The highway between Penasco and Caborca is a rough, two-lane road. Yet it is a very busy highway and buses, trucks and other vehicles travel at high speeds. Drive this highway with care!
Description:
As you exit Puerto Penasco heading southeast towards Caborca, you will encounter a series of beaches. Here is a brief list with a few details: Playa La Jolla: about 12 miles out. A quiet, virtually uninhabited beach perfect for beach combing or to simply enjoy the serenity. This beach is sandy and virtually rock free. Playa Encanto: Another sandy, quiet beach. This area is also known as Shell Beach so bring a bucket for your treasures. Follow the signs to SandCastle for a easy acces stop to the beach. Here you may find sand dollars at low tide. Beware: Do not get stuck the roads are sandy and deep! Playa Dorada & Playa Miramar: about 30 minutes out. Another very remote and deserted sandy beach with lots of shelling. Always remember stingrays may be in the sandy water. Mayan Palace & Mayan Lakes area: This is a massive resort development! They have at least 2 miles of gorgeous, unspoiled beachfront. This is a time share property. Also, the Mayan's Peninsula de Cortés Golf Course is located along this beach. La Pinta Estuary: Just past the Mayan area to the south east is La Pinta which is an ecological haven for marine creatures and birds. This is a great sandy beach and tidepooling far out at low tide where there are some rocks, and lots of shelling. This is another extremely remote beach. Playa San Jorge: Here is assured isolation! Bring shade, water and sunscreen and enjoy a quiet beach day.
