Description:
When this theater was built, it was considered the jewel of America because of its richness and ornamentation. It was inaugurated in 1761 and was the must-go-to place from the XVI to the XVIII century. In 1902 a fire destroyed it and it was reopened in 1940 after a reconstruction. It never regained its original glory, but during the last decade of the XX century, a new restoration gave it the importance among the people that traditionally had.
On its facade, the Charles V of Spain Shied gives it the "royal" character that made it so popular among the rich viceregal society.
