The Santo Domingo de Guzman Order was stablished in Puebla in 1534, being the second after the San Francisco de Asis Order. This temple began its construction in 1571, and was finished by 1611; though the dome wasn't finished until 1659 and apparently the dome was never finished.The facade is simple and discreet, its Purist style is one of the few preserved in its original state in Mexico.
To the right, in the atrium, the remainder of the old porter can be admired. In the XVII century the arches were bricked up, the widows became balconies and some white mortar ornaments were aded. That construction is now the Bello y Zetina Museum.
On the inside, the church is in a Churrigueresque style with many altarpieces on the sides and a fresco depicting the life of Santo Domingo on the on the epistle.
On the left hand side of the main altar, the marvelous Capilla del Rosario shines like a Baroque jewel, and on the opposite side, the pulpit with black and white marble shows the Dominican coat of arms.
