Callejón de los Sapos
Address:
Callejón de los Sapos
72000 Puebla, Mexico
Description:
This famous alley, amusingly named "the Alley of the Frogs" is a beautiful and colorful stroll between intriguing and interesting antique stores that may seem a little messy at first sight, but that contain many treasures inside. It got its name during the Colonial period because of the many frogs and toads that lived on the banks of the old San Francisco River (now the 5 de Mayo Boulevard) and that would get as far as this area when the river was overflowed.
The alley leads to the
Plazuela de los Sapos (Frogs Square), where every saturday an sunday a lively street market filled with more antiques and oddities enter the square.
At night, music from every bar and restaurant around fills the alley.
