Architecture in Puebla

Puebla is famous for many things, the food, the volcanoes, the music, but is the architecture in downtown Puebla that's made of this city the important touristic place it's been for quite a while now.

This city was created by Spaniards, for Spaniards, to be their main residence outside Mexico City. It was the most important stop between the capital and the main port, Veracruz, so the wealth and power of the people living here was second only to Mexico City.

They used all their money to build the biggest, richest, most beautiful houses and churches in all of Mexico. Puebla's Cathedral, some may think, is even more beautiful than the one in Mexico City. The Alfeñique House is unique in all Mexico, its facade seems to be made out of candy. The Santo Domingo church and the Capilla del Rosario are so magnificent, it's almost impossible to describe them; just think of layers and layers of gold creating the most beautiful and baroque figures you've ever seen.

But while all of this was made during the XVI-XVII Century, modern architecture is present in the city as well. The Centro de Convenciones of Puebla is an example of an new, modern, colorful building, containing and old and historic one.

So as you can see, to make a Top 10 list of the best architectural examples in Puebla was a difficult task, but these may be the ones you can't miss.
