Downtown Providence, which lies just west of the Providence River, packs in multiple name brand hotels in a small area, all in the same price range of mid to upper level hotels. As the capital of Rhode Island, Providence has business and political people coming through its downtown hotels daily so this area will be on the pricier end of the scale. Within a half-mile radius, you can find Hilton, Westin, Courtyard Marriott Downtown and Biltmore hotels. If you’re in town for a conference or event at the Rhode Island Convention Center, the Westin Providence is most convenient because it is connected to the center by an indoor walkway. The Providence Marriott Downtown and Renaissance Providence Hotel are both located to the north of the Providence River close to the Rhode Island State House.
Further east of downtown in the collegiate area of Prospect (College) Hill are smaller, bed-and-breakfast and inn establishments including the Old Court Bed and Breakfast on Benefit Street. The prices of Old Court are somewhat lower than a name brand hotel and the furnishings are far more unique. The public areas of the Inn are filled with period furnishings and the private rooms include refurbished Victorian beds. The inn matches the historic charm of an historic New England city and is within walking distance from Brown and RISD. The Annie Brownell Bed and Breakfast just across the River closer to downtown is also a highly rated inn with similar amenities and is within walking distance of the schools. Larger hotels are not present on Prospect Hill so if you want to be close to or on the hill, book a bed and breakfast room.
Federal Hill has very few hotels, but a new establishment is the Hotel Dolce Villa. It is an upscale hotel with only 14 suites equipped with full kitchens, whirlpool bathtubs and an array of electronics to suit business or personal needs. It sits in DePasquale Square in Little Italy near numerous Italian cafes and restaurants.
The Radisson Hotel Providence Harbor sits on India Point overlooking the expansive Providence Harbor. It is slightly further away from the main Providence attractions but its proximity to the water is a plus and make it a worthwhile choice.
