Prague is a compact city with all of her main sites more or less within walking distance. After you've been here a couple of days, you'll probably wonder if there is someplace you can go to avoid the crowds. Why, yes! Prague has lots of beautiful and interesting corners that many people never discover. Make like a local and enjoy some of these Prague off the beaten things to do.
Vysehrad is always the first place I recommend to out-of-town visitors. It's is on a metro line and can't even really be considered that far out of the center. The site of Prague's first castle, you'll enjoy beautiful views down the Vltava, lots of green space, a lovely church and very interesting cemetery where many high profile Czechs are buried. Along the same lines is the National Memorial on Vitkov Hill. Noticeable from many parts of the city thanks to a huge horse statue (which is Hussite warrior Jan Zizka) a trip up the hill rewards you with views of the city, a exhibition of the history of Czechoslovakia, great café and a roof viewing platform.
For those with special interests, the Museum of Antonín Dvorák offers an in depth glimpse into this composer's life and music, while the House of the Black Madonna is home to the Czech cubist museum. Only the truly dedicated will discover the Ecotechnical Museum. Yes, it's all about sewers, but a fascinating look at 19th century industrial architecture.
History buffs, especially those with an interest in World War II will find the National Memorial to the Victims of the Heydrich Terror fascinating. Get a bit out of the city with a visit to the Lidice Memorial, a beautiful homage to the victims of the town of Lidice which was basically wiped off the map (residents included) in retaliation for the assassination of Heydrich.
For those looking for a cultural glimpse of a different sort, head to Generali Arena for a Sparta Praha football (soccer) match. And finally, have a peaceful afternoon exploring the grounds of both the Botanical Gardens and Troja Chateau.
