Description:

For those willing to venture only a few miles inland from the New Hampshire seacoast, Foss Farm is a hidden gem for the outdoor enthusiast. This property is actually divided into two sections – East Foss Farm and West Foss Farm – thanks to an old Boston and Maine Railroad spur which separates the two properties. Together, the property comprises nearly 256 acres of wooded bliss. Both sections of Foss Farm, and the adjoining Thompson Farm property, are owned by the University of New Hampshire for agricultural and forestry study purposes. However, it is free and open to the public for passive recreation. The property features clearly defined and well maintained trails which leisurely wind their way through commanding stands of mature pine, hickory and oak trees. Three trails – White (the Forest Management Trail), Blue (the Wildlife Trail) and the Thompson Farm trail -- are perfect for off-road biking, cross country skiing, or casual walks in the woods. The property's gentle grade, coupled with gradual dips, twists and turns to the trails, makes this an interesting sojourn into the forest for nature lovers of nearly all activity levels. Allow 2 to 3 hours to travel the entire property.
