Description:

You've been splashing in the Gulf on a pristine beach on Manasota Key in Englewood, FL. Now it's time for lunch. You don't want to dress up, yet you are tired of the usual fare of a franchised fast food store. So consider the Pasty Shop, located in a small strip mall at 180 N. Indiana Ave. (Route 776)  in Englewood at the corner of Wentworth, just beyond Dearborn Street on Route 776. the road to Venice. What's a pasty? If you have been to Lawry's, 1,600 miles to the north, on U.S. 41 in Ishpeming, MI, or have visited Cornwall, England, you know a pasty (past-tee) consists of meat, potatoes, onions and rutabaga baked inside a pastry crust. In England it was the all-in-one meal for miners in the tin mines. Cornish miners then brought their traditional fare to the Upper Peninsula's iron mines. You can eat inside Englewood's Pasty Shop (just two tables) or take your pasty back to the beach to watch the shore birds as you enjoy your simple feast.
