NileGuide Expert tip:

The ultimate in eco-adventures in the shadow of the towers at Torres del Paine national park.

Description:

The indigenous-inspired canvas domes that make up this lodge in view of the famous looming granite spires at Torres del Paine national park are a unique optiong within the park. The idea behind the domes is to allow guests to feel the outside while being protected from it, including the strong winds in Patagonia, which can blow at up to 180 km/hr. The Kawesqar people bent wood into the geodesic shape and stretched animal pelts over them. Today's domes are made of more modern materials, but based on the same concept, to provide warm, comfortable lodging for individuals, small groups and families.

There is a common dome for meetings and meals, with a fully-equipped kitchen, a wooden floor and is heated. Individual domes are for 2 or 3 people, with wooden floors and enough blankets and comforters to keep you warm. The bathroom dome has hot-water showers, compost toilets and sinks for handwashing. Boardwalked paths connect each dome to the common domes, and each dome has its own deck.

In addition to a unique lodging option under the stars (part of the dome is transparent to allow guests a view of the Patagonian sky from the comfort of their beds), Ecocamp also offers several tour options within the park, including a Patagonian safari, options within the park with a 5, 7 or 9 day trek within the park and a trip called 8 Day Patagonia United, which combines three nights at the domes with four nights in hotels.
