Description:
The Alpine Loop Scenic Byway is one of Utah's classic roads, offering some of the state's most spectacular, mountain vistas along its course. Popular among motorists and burly road bikers alike, this route climbs high onto the shoulders of Mt. Timpanogos, growing ever steeper, narrower, and windier as it ascends.
Open during the summer only, this route can be taken as a 40-mile loop, departing from Provo, climbing northeast through Provo Canyon on US 189, and turning northwest onto UT 92 (the actual Alpine Loop Highway). Climbing high into the Wasatch, the Alpine Loop Highways passes the Sundance Resort along the way. Stay on that road as it bends southwest and dips down into American Fork Canyon, descending steeply, and the landing at last in Utah Valley at Alpine.
