NileGuide Expert tip:
The ice sculptures in Confederation Park are lit with colored lights at night enhancing these often exquisite ice creations, which are created by artists from around the world who compete for prizes. If skating on the Rideau Canal appeals to you, you can rent sleighs that adult skaters can use to propel little ones along the canal.
Description:
Chase the winter blues away at Winterlude! Winterlude brings Ottawa alive with family-friendly winter activities in the first three weeks of February. Most of the events, such as skating on the 8-km Rideau Canal Skateway, the world's longest skating rink, are free. Get into the fun on the
Rideau Canal by watching events such as the hilarious Annual Bed Race or by sampling a BeaverTail, a local favourite pastry. You can also view the incredible ice sculptures in
Confederation Park, the location of many Winterlude activities. Kids love to play on the ice slides in the Snowflake Kingdom at Jacques Cartier Park across the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Quebec.
