NileGuide Expert tip:
The buffet is always a good bargain, although you can order items a la carte from the menu. The garam masala, a staple Indian spice, used in this restaurant are a closely guarded family secret.
Description:
This name of this restaurant hearkens back to India's colonial British roots. The decor is the best of any Indian restaurant in Ottawa and creates a splendid and opulent ambience. The decorations include museum quality artefacts such as a 400-year-old hand carved wedding wagon, as well as intricate soapstone and ceramic statues, gorgeous tapestries and carved archways. The buffet has a good selection of mostly north Indian dishes. You can watch the chefs in a glass-enclosed area prepare items for the tandoor (clay oven) such as tandoori chicken or nan bread. Many Indian people frequent this restaurant, which is a testament to the quality of the food. The service at this family-owned restaurant is always attentive. It is not surprising that the elite of Ottawa frequent this popular restaurant.
