With two universities and two colleges, along with a large population of young political staffers and high-tech employees, Ottawa has a thriving nightlife scene. Head to the Byward Market for trendy clubs, sleek restaurants and rowdy student bars, or Elgin Street for a smaller but still lively scene. The Hull sector of Gatineau, across the Ottawa River, isn't quite the late-night haunt it once was but still draws a party crowd.
