It is a small beach made even smaller when the tide is up. When driving down 154/ Great Hammock Road, be careful not to pass it as just a parking lot. In the off season you can park here anytime but between Memorial Day and Labor Day a beach pass is required and granted only to Old Saybrook residents. If you can find parking on the street- usually easy to do on weekdays- you are welcome to walk on and there is no fee. Early morning or late afternoon find this beach quieter and more accessible. The tide determines the amount of sandy beach available and it varies tremendously. Restrooms are available and a concession stand offers the usual beach fare. Skim boarding is popular as is rooting around in tidal pools for marine life- so bring a net and pail and don't forget the sunscreen.
