Planed in 1840, this park was planned to be a replica of the Alameda in Mexico City. The word in spanish for the poplar tree is alamo, so an Alameda is a poplar-lined avenue. This Alameda was named after the then Governor Antonio de Leon.
This is a popular strolling and relaxing place. People come to sit, enjoy the music and admire either the Cathedral or the Post Office Building, built in 1895.
