Description:
A shallow, 195-acre lake in downtown Oakland lies in the heart of Oakland. Close to the Piedmont neighborhood, the Lake Merritt area is home to a story book children's park, Children's Fairyland, a farmer's market every Saturday, parks, playgrounds, a boating center and more. It's also a place to view more than 29 species of local and migratory birds. The Rotary Nature Center, Northern California's oldest Wildlife Refuge, hosts a bird feeding every day at 3:30pm. In the mornings and evenings, walkers, joggers, cyclists and fitness groups take to the shores to exercise, while dogs, kids and birds frolic in the grass. Within walking distance of the Lake View dining and shopping, Lake Merritt an idyllic place to spend an afternoon in Oakland.
