Though it's a cliche to say it's the city that never sleeps, there is a way in which New York comes alive at night that you've got to see to believe. It's the bright lights, yes, but it's also the people, and the music spilling out onto the streets, and the fact that you can sit down to dinner at 11 pm or order breakfast at 3 am and the place will still be crowded. It's as easy to find an ice-cold martini as it is to find a pint; an intimate wine bar as a packed nightclub. As for live entertainment, take your pick: there's theater (from Broadway to off-Broadway to WAY off-Broadway), opera, ballet, jazz, rock, performance art, stand-up comedy and anything else you can think of. New York at night – there's no place like it.
