One of the best restaurants in the Hunter, Zest is to be found in the pretty little seaside fishing and tourism village of Nelson Bay, about an hour's drive North of Newcastle, and maybe three hours from Sydney. You may well find yourself around these parts if you are interested in dolphin or whale spotting, both of which are popular activities with local tourism operators; the region is also well know for surfing, diving and other water related fun – certainly, this part of the world is one of the prettiest that can be imagined. Zest is the classiest restaurant in town. It serves the kind of food that you would expect, but better than you have any right to expect in a regional town like Nelson Bay – chef Glen Thompson's Italian inflected modern Australian cuisine has won Zest chef hats for three years running in the Sydney Morning Herald's Good Food Guide, and the place is a buzzing establishment that does good trade.
