Naples is famous for its museums and historic sites, but there's only so many works of art you can absorb at one time. Then it's time to get out and walk the vibrant and busy streets of this beautiful city and enjoy a few outdoor activities.
The two largest parks in Naples have a very different feel. Stretching along the waterfront you can enjoy views of the Bay of Naples while strolling through the Villa Comunale park in the Chiaia district. From the park head over to the Chiaia cable railway that will take you up to the top of the Vomero hill where you can explore the Castel Sant'Elmo, which offers breathtaking views overlooking the city and the entire Bay of Naples.
Before or after a visit to the Capodimonte Museum, enjoy the outdoors at the large park area surrounding the museum, which was once the royal hunting ground for the Bourbon kings of Naples. Pack a picnic and soak up the sun!
For a good hike and outdoor adventure, a climb to the top of Mt. Vesuvius is one of the most thrilling activities in Campania. From the top you'll feel the hot earth below your feet while the cool breezes blow off the Bay of Naples. Look across and you'll spot the Sorrento Peninsula and the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida on a clear day. Outdoors in Naples doesn't get much more inspiring than this!
