NileGuide Expert tip:

Local Expert Sonja Holverson: you can walk or bike from Lausanne to Morges easily along the lake promenade. From other Swiss Riviera cities such as Montreux or Geneva, it is a 35 minute train ride on the Swiss Rail InterCity. The old town off the port is lovely with interesting boutiques and bakeries. Morges is known for their excellent choice of antiques. The lakeside promenade is a must, especially in spring with 1'000s of tulips everywhere and I mean everywhere! Morge is also a major stop on the CGN boats that go around the Lake of Geneva.

Description:

With just a population of 14'000, Morges is still a small town founded by Louis of Savoy in 1286 with pedestrian areas in the old town center. The castle that houses the Military Museum (right at the port) was built in the shape of a Savoyard square and was the residence for the Savoyards and then for the Bernese reeves (from 1536) until the Vaud revolution (1798). In addition to lovely strolls along the shoreline and port, there is also the nearby  "Parc de l'independance" which is open all year and has 51 different species of trees such as chestnut, giant sequoias, as well as more tulips. Lovely to spend a family or couples day by just having a stroll and a meal on a lakeside terrace.
