If you want to feel as though you just stumbled through a time machine for a meal and respite in Montreal circa 1900, you will find no better place to do this than Bagel Etc., a hometown favorite for late breakfasts and lunches (open from 10am-4pm). Before even entering the premises, one is struck with the timeless qualities that make Bagel Et Cetera famous. The warmth of the staff and ambiance are as enveloping as the ornate and eclectic blend of the décor. Art Deco cut glass mirrors reflect to the dark Victorian tin ceiling, opening up the space while keeping it cozy. A wide range of appropriate music from Tin Pan Alley, to the songs of neighbor Leonard Cohen waft through the space reminding you, only so slightly that you are in the 21st century. The menu is true to both centuries as well, highlighted by their signature Bagel, Cream Cheese, and Lox (a Montreal trademark). But Bagel Et Cetera does not shy away from crafting own unique style in the open-kitchen, which can only be called a true Montreal style, as they serve a delicious Quebecois take on huevos rancheros, offers a tip of the hat to the era of player pianos with "The Gershwin." and even re-invents the old world's Blintzes—but in a Florentine, or savory chicken mode. Being a breakfast nook, Bagel Etc has even found their own voice for their subtle but flavourful home fries. This is a taste of the old Plateau, when it was called "The Main"
