NDG and Westmount; the anglo-hoods-- traditionally these are Montral's English enclaves, and while the past few decades have seen a real blending of neighborhoods, there is still a great old world English charm that permeates through Westmount and NDG (Notre Damme des Grace, or Our Lady of Grace). There are many great bars to choose from in this part of town as well; from the loud young and lively bars that don't stop till 3:00, to the more idyllic small Irish pubs, you can find every type of watering hole in these two locales. Some favorites are definitely the Clairemont, a great bar and restaurant in the heart of Westmount that is always filled to the brim with the upwardly mobile set, and the Centre St Ambroise for the very latest in local live music, and of course the Honey Martin, one of the city's warmest places to hoist a few ales. For the traveler to Montreal, the nightlife in NDG and Westmount is certainly a change from the fast pace of downtown, and a place where you are pretty much guaranteed that you will meet people who speak your language. If you want to have the easiest time meeting Montrealers, this might be a great place to start!
