The small plates-centric menu jumps from flavor to flavor, each dish packing a punch. Boquerones, or Mediterranean white anchovies, Embutidos, aka a sampling of Spanish and house made meats, and Hamburguesa, a mini lamb burger with pickled cauliflower and tarragon aioli that might be a little more recognizable to American palates, are but a few of the outstanding dishes served up at Mundaka. There is even a dish called Foie—a plate of seared foie gras, banana and beet puree.
Mundaka takes its name from a small seaside fishing village in the Basque Country of Spain. The restaurant was named the Best New Restaurant of 2009 by local paper the Monterey County Weekly and the Best Appetizers/Small Plates of 2010 by the same venerable publication.
