Il Vecchio has quickly become a favorite with Monterey locals, despite only opening a few short months ago. This chic eatery serves traditional Italian dishes with inventive twists. For antipasti, try the tortini de melanze, an individual cup of baked eggplant mousse topped with parmigiano cheese, or the zucchine ripiene, zucchini stuffed with flaked beef and sausage. Dig into pasta dishes featuring in-house made pasta such as the gnoccki al gorgonzola con mele or the ragu d'agnello con pappardelle. Each dish is made to order, by the way, so second dishes like pollo alla cacciatore (braised chicken with white wine and sage) and pesce con pesto e vino bianco (rock cod in a light pesto sauce) taste as fresh and as flavorful as possible. Make sure you save room for some delicious dolci like tiramisu and pere cotte con vino rosso (pears poached in merlot).
