Finding off-the-beaten-path activities in Moab is easy! The unusual, the unexpected, and the unforgettable activities are what make memories for a lifetime. We've rounded up some good out of the way, somewhat more unusual things to do when you visist Moab.
Devil's Garden Primitive Loop encompasses all sorts of great natural arches in Arches National Park. Note that it's called "primitive" for a reason. Be prepared as you head off for sublime adventure on these trails. Double O Arch Trail can be extended to include the trail to Dark Angel, a very interesting example of how erosional forces can sculpt sandstone.
For mountain bikers and hikers seeking solitude, head to the Hurrah Pass Trail. This mostly undemanding trail is all road, making it a good choice for beginners and younger riders. Often overlooked because of the fame of the Slickrock Trail, Hurrah Pass is a truly beautiful trail that unfolds alongside the Colorado River. Another excellent, semi-secret spot is Behind the Rocks, south of Moab. This gorgeous area has technical bike trails and hikes that rival those in Canyonlands for sheer magnificence of canyon and red rock formation scenery.
To really get away, find your way to Goblin Valley State Park (you'll probably pass it if you include Capitol Reef National Park in your visit) or Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum in Blanding. Goblin Valley gets a nod due to its proliferation of hoodoos, and Edge of the Cedars because it holds some of the finest Anasazi Indian artifacts in the Southwest, along with being located on an ancient village site.
