Moab is often called the adventure capital of the Southwest because it has great outdoors things to do. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, river running, and more! Here are some of our favorite outdoor activities in Moab.
First of all, of course, are nearby Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. With trails anywhere from a quarter of a mile to tens of miles long, you'll probably find something you'll enjoy. World-famous Delicate Arch is practically a requirement when visiting Moab. We like Sand Dune Arch because it's a really nice arch but the trail to it is shorter and easier, making it great for kids or if you're pressed for time. For deeper immersion into a proliferation of arches, try the Devils Garden loop. In Canyonlands, Mesa Arch is the de rigueur hike, especially at sunrise.
Head to Behind the Rocks for a locals' secret area to experience technical mountain bike trails and hikes that rival those in Canyonlands for jaw-dropping beauty. There are around 20 named arches in the area and about 20 unnamed ones, all waiting for you to discover them as amazing outdoors things to do. Another locals' favorite is Negro Bill Canyon, named after an area rancher back in the late 1800s.
If you prefer your outdoor adventures to be guided, we love Holiday Expeditions. With years of experience, friendly staff, and an intimate knowledge of the area, they can lead you on some of the top outdoors adventures in the Moab area.
