Kleins
NileGuide Expert Says:
If you want Mexican food with a home made taste without paying for all the frills, this is the place for you.
Address:
Masaryk
11500 Mexico City, Mexico
NileGuide Expert tip:
If you sit outside you can have your shoes shined while you eat and buy candy or trinkets from the flow of street vendors that never seems to end. It's noisier than inside but with a lot more character.
Description:
Kleins has been around for over fifty ears. It is located on Masaryk Av. righ in the heart of Polanco a trendy neighborhood in Mexico City that is filled with restaurants of all price ranges, boutique shops like Louis Vuitton.
Kleins is an unpretentious restaurant with very extensive breakfast lunch and dinner menus specializing in Mexican food. They have the best huevos rancheros, chilaquiles and enchiladas anywhere and the prices are very reasonable ranging from $6 to $8 per main course.
They have tables indoors and outdoors where you can sit and watch people go by. This particular block of Masaryk has back to back restaurants and cafes so the stream of people walking by is endless. The morning crowd is mostly business people grabbing a quick breakfast and holding a brief meeting, at lunch it's mostly people that work in the area and in the evening it's fairly quiet, just a few people having a bite after watching a movie at the cinema a block away.
The waiters are very friendly and seem to know everyone by name. Almost everybody that goes there knows everybody else and you will see people greeting each other from one table to the next. I have been going there since I was a kid and Jorge, my waiter serves me my coffee before I even sit down and as soon as he sees me walk in the door he places my order for scrambled eggs with salami before even asking me if that's what I want, which of course is exactly what I would have ordered anyway.
