Most of the Zona Rosa's gay bars seem to attract the same nightlife crowd: twenty-something, slender, pretty, and coiffed. Nicho Bear Bar is the antidote to that sameness, a neighborhood bar packed to the rafters with "…Bears, Chubs, Chubbies, Daddies, and their Admirers." This is an unpretentious place that attracts a mixed-ages male clientele (25-50) that comes here to hang out with friends and share a pitcher of draft beer. Nicho is a long, narrow L-shaped space, extending from the front bar and rising up on levels to the back where you've got a little more breathing room. Friday nights, karaoke rules the roost with up to 500 guys singing along to hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Manager Henrique is straight but not narrow and clearly loves and respects his clientele, a trait shared by his bartenders and waiters.
