Description:

El Hoyo Café de Te is a small teahouse in the Historic Center that attracts students from neaby UADY (Autonomous University of the Yucatan) and young backpackers staying at Las Nomadas Hostel. It's a relaxed place, with chilled out vocal music in many languages piped over the sound system. The décor is bohemian shabby chic, with six tables seating about 22 people on dining chairs, low upholstered cubes, and padded benches. Tea, of course, is the main offering here and you can choose from black, green, white and red leaf varieties or tissanes of fruit or herbal blends. El Hoyo presents simple, light fare to accompany its beverages, which also include coffee, frappes, malteds, and fresh squeezed juices. Fondue – an unexpected choice in blisteringly hot Merida – tops the menu, either as an appetizer (cheese) or as a dessert (chocolate with strawberries). Other food choices include crepes, salads, and sandwiches.
