The Teatro Armando Manzanero is one of the best places to spend an evening when visiting Merida. This Art Deco masterpiece glows with neon and features streamlined design in 2,300-seat main auditorium and 227-seat upstairs Cineteca Manuel Barbachano Ponce. Local impresarios and the city's Cultural Institute present music, film, dance, and theater, with touring events often present, too. The Cineteca frequently hosts film festivals, and has in the past focused on Marilyn Monroe and other American and Mexican film stars.
