The Western Bulldogs have had a difficult time in the VFL/AFL with only one premiership in its history in 1954. Their struggles on the ground and with the bank manager (they almost went bankrupt in the mid 90's) have made them the 2nd favorite team for many supporters throughout the land. Known as the pride of the west (their heartland is Footscray), their greatest ever player was EJ Whitten, generally regarded as one of the best to have played the game. Their form in recent years has been better, but still they can't reach a grand final.
