South Maui is made up by the beach communities of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena. There are some beautiful beaches to choose from on this side of the island. We recommend Ulua Beach for snorkeling, Big Beach for waves and Wailea Beach for people watching/celebrity spotting
. This side of the island also has some fantastic golf courses to be played. The Wailea Golf Club consists of three 18-hole courses that each offer a different set of challenges. Some of the fairways offer amazing views of the crescent moon-shaped island of Molokini.
For an educational outing, take the family over to the free National Marine Sanctuary educational center. Here, visitors can hold whale bones, see baleen, and learn about the Hawaiian sea turtle as well. The center has recently been upgraded to a larger facility, but is still small enough to see in under 20 minutes.
There are also plenty of shopping options on the south side of Maui. Kalama Village features a movie theater, surf shops like Local Motion and Honolua Surf, and top notch restaurants. The shops of Wailea consist of more high-end luxury brands found in Europe.
