Description:
Wow. Best New Restaurant, 2010, in the Good Food Guide awards, and deservedly so. Wrapped around the old 1930s bathers' pavilion, this new temple to gastronomy is all Italian terrazzo floors, white washed walls and offers a close-up view of criss-crossing yachts or ferries approaching Manly wharf, a leisurely 5-minute walk west along the esplanade.
There are two areas; one, a heritage room that's all dark colors and clubby with worn leather benches and velvet cushioned seats. The other area is where you want to be for arguably one of the ultimate dining experiences in Sydney. It's all louvers and split-level light, with sleek surfaces and a breezy feel.
The menu and wine list lean towards the Mediterranean. You can opt for the five-course chef's tasting selection ($98) or choose a la carte. Either way, just ensure you try the pappardelle with wild boar ragu and marscapone. Make it an entrée size, which leaves room for either an entrée of cuttlefish, eggplant, garlic and lemon, or if the appetite allows, roast suckling pig and cavolo nero. We sipped chilled Greco di Tufo to start; then backed up with a Bannockburn 'Stuart' Pinot Noir (Victoria).
Then seal the deal with coffee and gummi bears. If you choose only one harborside dining treat, make Manly Pavilion top of the list.
